3.4 How to Send USDT on BNB Chain

A complete guide to transferring USDT on BNB Chain (BEP20) including setup, fees, and best practices.

§BNB Chain Overview

BNB Chain (formerly Binance Smart Chain) is a blockchain developed by Binance. It uses the BEP20 token standard, which is compatible with Ethereum's ERC20 standard. This means wallets and tools designed for Ethereum can often be used with BNB Chain with minimal configuration.

BNB Chain is widely supported by exchanges and wallets, particularly those in the Binance ecosystem. It offers fast transaction speeds and moderate fees, making it a popular choice for USDT transfers.

§Wallet Setup for BNB Chain

Most wallets that support Ethereum also support BNB Chain. In MetaMask, add the BNB Chain network with these details: Network Name is BNB Smart Chain, RPC URL is https://bsc-dataseed.binance.org, Chain ID is 56, Currency Symbol is BNB, and Block Explorer is https://bscscan.com.

Trust Wallet supports BNB Chain natively. Select the BNB Smart Chain network when adding USDT to your wallet. Ensure you are using the BEP20 version of USDT, not the BEP2 version.

§Sending USDT on BEP20

To send USDT on BNB Chain, connect your wallet to the BNB Smart Chain network. Select USDT (BEP20) from your token list and enter the recipient's address. BNB Chain addresses use the same format as Ethereum addresses (0x prefix).

You need BNB in your wallet to pay for gas fees. A typical USDT transfer on BNB Chain costs approximately 0.10 to 0.30 USD worth of BNB. Having 0.005 BNB is usually sufficient for several transactions.

Confirm the transaction and wait for processing. BNB Chain transactions typically confirm within 3 to 5 seconds. Verify the transaction on BscScan using the transaction hash.

§Best Practices

Before sending large amounts, verify the recipient's address by sending a small test transaction first. This is especially important when transferring to a new address for the first time.

Always confirm that the receiving platform or wallet supports BEP20 tokens. While BNB Chain support is widespread, some platforms only accept USDT on specific networks.

Keep a small reserve of BNB in your wallet at all times to ensure you can always pay for gas fees when needed. Running out of BNB means you cannot send any tokens until you acquire more.
