6.6 Why Name Matching Matters

The importance of verifying that payment sender names match buyer identities and what to do when they do not.

§Why Name Matching Is Essential

Name matching is a fundamental security measure in P2P trading. When a payment arrives from a name that matches the buyer's KYC-verified identity on CryptoBazaar, it provides strong assurance that the payment is legitimate and authorized.

A mismatched name indicates a third-party payment, which is the most common vector for fraud and chargeback scams on P2P platforms. The actual account holder may not have authorized the transaction and can file a fraud complaint with their bank.

§How to Check Name Matching

When you receive a payment, check the sender's name in your bank transaction details. Compare it exactly with the buyer's name displayed on the CryptoBazaar trade page.

Minor variations may occur due to how different banks display names. For example, middle names may be abbreviated, or initials may be used differently. Use your judgment for minor formatting differences, but the core name must match.

If the name is completely different (a different person altogether), do not release escrow under any circumstances. This is a clear third-party payment.

§When Names Do Not Match

If the payment sender's name does not match the buyer's name, inform the buyer through the platform chat and explain that you cannot release escrow for third-party payments.

If the buyer has a legitimate explanation (such as a recently changed name), ask them to update their KYC on the platform first and then reinitiate the trade.

If the buyer insists on proceeding despite the name mismatch, raise a dispute. CryptoBazaar's support team will review the situation and make a determination.

Never accept a name mismatch based on verbal explanations alone. The platform's rules exist to protect you, and following them consistently is your best defence against fraud.
